ESMA appoints Thomas Richter to high-level advisory committee
The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has appointed Thomas Richter, CEO of the German Investment Funds Association BVI, to its Securities and Markets Stakeholder Group (SMSG). The four-year term in this high-level advisory committee begins on 1 July 2024.
The SMSG is composed of 30 members representing the financial industry, companies, investor protection groups, and consumers and academics. The committee provides the ESMA with advice and must be consulted on technical standards, guidelines, and recommendations. Additionally, it can flag inconsistent applications of EU law and inconsistent supervisory practices in member states.
‘I am pleased to be appointed to this ESMA committee. Functioning markets, financial stability, and investor protection are important factors for the fund business as well,’ said Richter.
